Here are some upcoming author signings and book events in the Chicago area and northwest suburbs! I tried to find as many free programs as I could, but for most of the author signings on this list, you have to buy a copy of the author's featured book to get in.

Young Adult Literature Conference: YA Fandom Frenzy Day


Venue: Granger Middle School

 Some of the authors who will be at the event include Jared Reck, author of A Short History of the Girl Next Door, Peter Bognanni, author of Things I'm Seeing Without You, and Adam Silvera, author of the amazing and heart-wrenching book, They Both Die at the End. I will be attending this event, but you won't know who I am if I go-- it'll be like Where's Waldo except I won't be wearing a red-and-white striped sweater, and my name is not Waldo.

Top 10 Banned Young Adult Books (Banned Book Week 2017)

September 24-30 is Banned Books Week, and to celebrate, I've compiled a list of my favorite frequently banned/challenged young adult books. (For more information on Banned Books Week, check out my blog post  here .) 10.  Catcher in the Rye   by J. D. Salinger Banned for "sexual content, offensive language," and for being "unsuited to age group" (ALA;  2005  Top Ten #3,  2009  &  2001  Top Ten #6). Photo credit: Emma K. Photo credit:  San Jose Public Library  (under  this license ) This week is Banned Books Week , a week to celebrate the freedom to express and share ideas, even unorthodox or unpopular ideas like those present in the frequently-challenged young adult (YA) books of today. There are many reasons for a book to be banned from the shelves: content considered unsuited to the audience for whom the book is intended, sexual or graphic content, offensive language, or even characters within the LGBTQ+ community. The banning or challenging (attempting to ban) of books mostly stems from parents who don't believe the topic matter is suited for the age group.
